Everyone wants an atmosphere where happy chatter and smells of delicious food fill the air. That’s exactly what Central Park Family Restaurant has to offer and this year marks the family-run restaurant’s ten-year anniversary. From the first month it opened, Central Park had regulars - those who eat there 3-4 times a week - and a decade later, there are more regulars than ever, because the food is consistently delicious, the portions large, and the prices great! The food is presented beautifully and the quality is undeniable. It’s upscale taste with down-home pricing and comfort!

Central Park Family Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, but serves breakfast all day. Opening at 6:30 a.m. and closing at 8:00 p.m., it gives customers that old-fashioned diner feel.  The servers are friendly and also are “regulars” as they have been with the restaurant for a long time and know many customers by name.  It’s no wonder that the restaurant has a solid population of regulars.

Chris and Charlie Michael, co-owners, opened Central Park Family Restaurant in 2007 in New Port Richey, but the brothers weren’t new to the restaurant business. Their parents opened the family’s first restaurant in New York City in 1982. Florida transplants, the family ran the popular Four Coins Family Restaurant in St. Petersburg for nearly 16 years before opening several more successful restaurants.

Central Park’s regulars love the food and they love Chris and Charlie, and their friendly staff. You’ll often find one of the brothers checking on tables and saying hello to diners, and quite a few of the Central Park team are family members. Central Park Family Restaurant is a family-run, family-friendly restaurant at its best. Charlie is in charge of Central Park’s catering department, which is a popular local choice for parties of all kinds, family gatherings and even local business seminars.

Altogether the menu gives costumers 10 pages to choose from! The menu is as varied as it is large and includes entrées and specialties that include favorites from a variety of types of fare including American, Italian, Greek, and French to Spanish, Polish, and German. There is something for everyone on the extensive menu.  Just like a busy diner in the Big Apple, Central Park Family Restaurant puts out delicious food and fast, catering to the tastes of an expansive group of people – which is perfect for a small diner in New Port Richey, Florida, where we have people from all over the country. Chris calls the menu “American Fusion” and there are literally so many specials daily that he installed a large flat-screen TV to continually scroll the specials.

The menu must be seen! The fresh wild-caught Salmon Florentine is a house favorite. There are northern favorites such as scrapple (a traditional mush of pork combined with cornmeal and wheat flour with spices) and the New Jersey Taylor pork roll. Down-home southern favorites include delicious fried chicken and the newly added fried green tomatoes, which are a unique Mediterranean and southern fusion. An item not on the menu, but always available due to popular demand is Central Parks amazing wings!

Breakfast is served all day so if you want fluffy, delectable pancakes, French toast or yummy waffles for dinner, you’ve got it! The hearty breakfast sandwiches and scrambles are belly pleasers, and there are 65 different omelets on the menu, plus the chef puts out a specialty omelet each week and always welcomes diners’ own omelet creations.

If you stop in for lunch or dinner, there are salads, sandwiches, burgers, and full entrees with many favorites! Those wanting to eat healthy and low-calorie can count on the amazing fresh salads and a variety of diet-friendly menu items.

Honestly, you’ve got to check out the daily specials at this restaurant, which are listed each day on the website:  centralparkfamilyrestaurant.com.  Daily specials are limited and subject to availability due to the freshness of Central Park’s food.  Breakfast specials are offered daily from 6:30 to 11 a.m.; lunch specials are offered from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and dinner specials are available 3:30 to 8 p.m.

Leave room for dessert! Central Park’s pies are from J. J. Gandy, including the key lime pie that made J. J. Gandy’s locally famous. And Chris says you’ve got to try their cheesecakes!

Central Park Family Restaurant garners 4.5 stars from 362 Trip Advisor reviews (as of June 5).

Regular diner Barrie M. referred to Central Park a lunchtime delight and said, “This trip was a lunchtime and we were both in the mood for some fish. My wife had haddock blackened and Cajun, she said it was to die for and the serving was huge. I had fish and chips (also haddock) and was served three huge fillets and enough fries to feed a whole family. Awesome. Needless to say we took some home with us. Excellent food and excellent service by friendly people. We discovered this place because they catered a 50th anniversary party for some relatives, their catering service is excellent and way above the normal catering standards on finds nowadays.”

Lucy Alvarez gave a 5-star Trip Advisor review titled “#1 for Many Reasons” in which she shared, “Central Park is our go to place especially when nobody can decide on what to eat. They have pretty much anything you're craving. I had the Thai red curry chicken my husband had the prime rib and my kids had burgers that should’ve been on the adult menu that’s how big they were. The place is always busy clean and the staff is some of the best I’ve ever seen. This is just an all-around perfect little diner and highly recommended.”
