9th Annual Fiesta By The Bay for Autism

Fri., Apr. 25, 5:30–9 PM––The 9th Annual Fiesta by the Bay for Autism will be held at the Ybor Museum Garden; 1818 E. 9th Ave. in Tampa. Cost: Advance Tickets can be purchased online for $10 students and $20 adults at www.usf.edu/ua/RSVP/CARD Tickets can be purchased at the door for $25; Sponsorships available.

Featuring the included taco bar and music and dancing with the fabulous DJ. This year’s silent auction promises to be the best ever, so make plans now to join us for the family friendly 9th Annual Fiesta by the Bay fundraiser benefiting the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at USF. The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at USF (CARD-USF) is supported through the USF Foundation's Autism Services Fund, a 501[c] [3] tax-exempt charity organization. CARD-USF, located within the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences at the University of South Florida, serves over 6,500 families and professionals across 14 counties in southwest Florida. It is one of 7 statewide CARD sites offering services and trainings at no charge. Additional support from the community allows CARD to expand projects and provide special events to families and professionals right here in Tampa Bay.

CARD-USF provides communities, organizations, businesses and families with the knowledge and skills to support children and adults with autism and related disabilities. We also work with early intervention, schools, employers, businesses and universities. FLC Walk MS at Lowry Park Zoo

Sat., Apr. 26––The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) is sponsoring a MS Walk at the Lowry Park Zoo, 1101 W. Sligh Avenue in Tampa. Site opens at 5 p.m. with the Opening Ceremony at 6 p.m. Approximately 1,500-2,000 individuals are expected to participate in the one-mile or the two-mile course through Lowry Park Zoo. Multiple Sclerosis attacks the central nervous system and is a progressive disease that affects all members in a family because of the spillover effect. Currently there are disease-modifying treatments available, but no cure. However, there are more promising therapies in development right now than at any other time in history. The Walk MS fundraiser supports research that will result in the next generation of treatments. The NMSS has one of the lowest administrative cost programs in the country - millions of dollars go to research into this disease as well as support too individual needs. The mid- Florida Chapter of the NMSS encompasses Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas plus 20 more counties.

Trinity Regional Rehab Center Presents: Dog Days

Fri., Mar. 28, 4–8 PM––Trinity Regional Rehab Center invites the public and their well-behaved dogs to Dog Days, a fundraiser being held to benefit Cindy’s Pets. Bring your dog for an evening of fun and frolic!

Admission is FREE to the event which will feature food, a live band, LOTS of entertainment, rescue groups and giveaways! Trinity Regional Rehab Center is located at 2144 Welbilt Blvd., Trinity (www.trinityregionalrehab.com)

About Cindy’s Pets: Cindy’s Pets was started by Genesis School, along with interested parents and friends, to provide needed pet food for the animals of Senior citizens in our area by working in conjunction with Pasco County’s Elderly Nutrition “Meals on Wheels” program. Many seniors, while participating in the “Meals on Wheels” program, give a portion of their delivered meals to their beloved pets.

The goal of Cindy’s Pets is to provide nutritional food for the pets, so the elderly will enjoy their own meals with the knowledge that their pet is also being taken care of.

The kind people at Pasco County’s “Meals on Wheels” program identify 192 pets owned by homebound seniors who would benefit from the Cindy’s Pets program. Volunteers and donations are needed! Needed: donations of pet food, monetary donations, volunteers to package the pet food, volunteers to deliver the pet food to the homebound seniors.

You can “Adopt a Pet” (for a month or a year). If you choose to Adopt a Pet, the cost per month will be: Cats–$12; Small Dogs–$15; Medium Dogs–$20; Large Dogs–$25.

Dr. Jeremy Albert of Albert Orthodontics Volunteers at FLA-MOM

Mar. 28-29, 5:30 AM––FLAMOM is a program of the Florida Dental Association and will be held at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. MOM stands for Mission of Mercy and MOM events are held in many states in the US. These events target underserved populations and provide free dental care to anyone who shows up, no insurance needed and no proof of income. FLA-MOM at the Florida State Fairgrounds opens doors at 5:30 AM. Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis with approximately 800 individuals treated each day. Patient quota is typically reached by 10 AM, so come early!

Over 300 Dentists, Dental Specialists, Hygienists, Physicians, Dental Assistants and over 1000+ support volunteers have committed their time, energy, and expertise to helping as many patients as possible. Antibiotics and non-narcotic pain medication will be provided. While rare, it may be necessary to provide a written prescription that can be taken to a local pharmacy. There will NOT be narcotics onsite, nor will any prescriptions be given for narcotics – no exceptions.

Heritage Springs Community Garage Sale in Trinity

Sat., Apr. 5, 8 AM–1PM––You are sure to find treasures! Multiple families participating in the “Open to the Public” garage sale. Gates open at 8 AM. Location is 11345 Robert Trent Jones Parkway (Little Rd. turns into Robert Trent Jones Pkwy. on the south side of Trinity Blvd.). Follow signs to Heritage Springs. NO ENTRY off of Duck Slough/Garden Lakes.

Sons of the American Legion Community Yard Sale

Sat., Mar. 22, 8 AM–2 PM––The Sons of the American Legion Unit 147 are hosting a Community Yard Sale at the Post, 17383 Gunn Highway in Odessa. Vendor spots are available 10x10 space with table and chairs for $8. Donations of goods accepted. JK Cancer Fund’s 2014 Drive Away Cancer Golf Outing

Sun., Mar. 30 ––The 4th Annual Drive Away Cancer Golf Outing’s check in begins at 11 a.m. for the 1 p.m. shotgun start. The event is held at Seven Springs Golf and Country Club and is presented by the JK Cancer Fund, a non-profit organization that supports local charities supporting cancer survivors.

Gunn Highway Memorial Auxiliary Unit 147 Presents 3rd Annual “All American Comedy Show & Dinner”

Sat., Apr. 5––This consistently sold-out show is one of the larger fundraisers for the year for Unit 147. The comedians being featured (Law Smith, Catherine Maloney and Aniria Wilson) are nationally touring comedians, who have left audiences in stitches for each of the last three years.

Tickets for the event are $15 for single or $25 for a couple, and include dinner. There will be a cash bar. The showroom and bar are non-smoking. Huge 27th Annual River Crossing Garage Sale - Rain or Shine!

Fri., May 2 & Sat. May 3, from 9 AM–4 PM––Since 1987, the River Crossing neighborhood has been holding its annual garage sale. You might want to pack a lunch - this is a big one!

River Crossing will keep with tradition and of the 360 homes, at least 50 families will participate with items for sale ranging from antiques, clothing, tools, household items, jewelry, electronics, gardening tools, children’s items, books, knick-knacks and more!

You’ve got nothing to lose but the best deals in town. Many families choose to contribute part of their proceeds to local charities.
